Ben Alloway was born on February 19, 1981 in the sunny state of Queensland and is the eldest of 11 siblings. Ben has been involved in competitive sports since the age of six and his love for competition has grown stronger with every year that he ages. Growing up he dabbled in soccer, track and field, baseball, squash, rugby league and rugby union, anything that involved him being active and in some form of competition he was open to trying. Soccer was the sport where Ben got his first taste of being a professional athlete where he earnt his first pay check whilst touring Europe.
After competing at a national level in both soccer and track and field a few years passed and Ben felt that there was still something missing and in turn, found Mixed Martial Arts at the start of 2010 where he trained on the beaches of the Gold Coast. Ben started training in Jiu-Jitsu which led him to light sparring which he started to ensure that he could get back into shape after becoming injured during his soccer career. It was this training that caused Ben to fall in love with the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Within four weeks of training he had his first fight and from there it became his addiction rather than his love.
Ben turned professional in MMA in February 2010 and has since acquired a record of thirteen wins with just three losses. In order to continue to get better at his craft, Ben spends his time between the beautiful Gold Coast in Australia at AXIS Fight Academy and also at both the entertaining and unforgiving HIT squad along with FIORE MMA in The United States' Mid West. In an effort to continually improve his skills, in early 2012 Ben spent a month at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand to concentrate on his stand up.
In 2012 Ben was selected to be a part of the inaugural season of TUF:Smashes in the Welterweight division representing Australia. Throughout the series Ben continued to turn heads, scoring the first win of the series as well as the first stoppage. Although he advanced easily to the semi-finals, his success in the series fell short after a three round war with Bradley Scott didn't go his way with a split decision loss. The fight with Scott was subsequently awarded the "fight of the series". Although Ben did not make it through to the finals on the series he was rewarded for his efforts inside the cage and was given a fight against Manuel Rodriguez on the TUF Smashes Finale, which took place in Ben's hometown of the Gold Coast on December 15th. In an entertaining display Ben won his UFC debut via a stunning knockout which earned him a Knockout of the Night award.
For Ben, MMA is not a 9-5 job, it's a lifestyle and it’s an outlet for him to lose himself, every day of the week. One thing that Ben loves about MMA is that unlike other sports he had excelled at, it is not a team sport. Once you're in that cage it's just him and the other guy. It comes down to being better than that guy on the day and in his eyes that's the best thing about it. There are no excuses. You can't blame anyone else if something goes wrong, and everything that happens inside that cage is on your own shoulders.
Ben has spent a lot of time travelling with this sport and met the people that have inspired him to be the best fighter that he can be.
So follow his journey, it is one journey that is only going to get more exciting!
